A Sensible Approach To Acne Treatment

Acne is one of those medical terms that, although not a painful condition or life threatening, can still bring dread to the thoughts of those worried about getting acne, or having to deal with its signs.

In fact, acne is not a single skin disorder but a group of them. For girls and women, the types of acne likely to be of most concern are:

1. Acne vulgaris, which is mostly experienced by young people at about the time of puberty. It is mostly seen on the face and chest, but it is obviously the facial signs that cause self consciousness in a girl.

2. Acne cosmetica, which is a form of acne caused by the use of cosmetics, and therefore of special itnerest to girls and women.

3. Acne rosacea, which is a red rash that appears mostly on the face, and

4. Acne conglobata (Hidradenitis suppurativa). This form of acne shows in abscesses or boils of sweat glands and hair follicles; plus in women's underarms, groin and buttocks, and under the breasts.

The effects of acne can not only mean the damage to the skin, but also psychological problems and loss of self confidence and self esteem. A bad case of acne can mean the sufferer reluctant to go out and be seen in public. It is clearly a skin problem that the sufferer wants to go away as soon as possible.

Fortunately for most people, acne can be treated and prevented. here are just a few basic tips:

1. Remember that acne can be caused by natural body chemistry changes during teens, menopause and menstrual cycles, so do not think the condition is here to stay the first time you see it on your face. Keep calm and confident and resolve to beat it.

2. Acne can also be caused by bacteria clogging the skin's pores so a priority is skin cleanliness and keeping the pores clear and open. That will benefit your overall health too, as the skin place an important role in your immune system, allowing toxins to be sweated out of the body.

3. Use an exfoliating cleanser and anti-acne soap and wash your face gently with them every day. The best results can be obtained by washing when you rise in the morning, and last thing at night before you go to bed.

4. Do not squeeze pimples. This can prolong the life of a pimple and even cause scarring.

5. For their disinfectant and healing properties, buy an anti-acne facial mask and use it to two times a week.

6. Drink lots of water, which is required to repair and maintain every part of the body, including your skin.

7. Keep your hair away from your face, particularly your forehead.

8. Consider taking a multivitamin and chromium supplement, but eat a good healthy vitamin rich diet. Vitamins and minerals are key to your skin health long term.

9. Do not use makeup, paints, and so on, unless they are water soluble, or marked as noncomedogenic. Even so, only use sparingly. You can enhance your beauty without going overboard with cosmetics.

10. If you must go out in the sun, apply a minimal sunscreen, with SPF 15. Choose one that’s a noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic sunscreen, so that it does not clog skin pores.
