Unnatural Hair Loss Treatments - Hair Transplants

Hair transplant procedures have evolved a long way since they began in the early 1950's. Normally a healthy beautiful hair requires an ongoing care routine that starts with nourishment, but when you experience hair problems such as woman's hair loss, sometimes professional help is needed to fix the problem. As with men, some women opt for hair transplanting.

In the past several several centuries, superstition, old wives tales and guess work ruled the world of hair loss. During the 20th century, that has has gradually been replaced by science A breakthrough came finally in 1939, when a Japanese dermatologist, Dr. Okuda, published a revolutionary method in a Japanese medical journal that would lay the ground work for modern hair transplantation. His method involved using hair transplant grafts to correct lost hair from various areas, including the scalp, eyebrow and mustache areas where in the late 50's Dr. Norman Orentriech began to experiment with the idea of relocating or transplanting the hair on the back and sides of the head to the balding areas, this leading the foundation for modern hair transplantation.

Hair transplants grew in popularity slowly but surely, while today whole new theories and research are dedicated to stop hair loss or correct the procedure in best ways possible. However, mostly it was, and still is, men who experience severe hair loss that they may think requires a transplant solution. Women, too, can suffer from loss of hair, and similar techniques are available for women too.

Based on a recent research, Dehydro-Testosterone is the main cause for hair loss, as it is responsible for the destruction of hair follicles in the frontal, mid scalp and crown areas, so today in hair transplant procedures, hair follicles are taken from these DHT resistant areas called donor areas, and then placed in the balding parts of the scalp. These hair follicles remain unharmed by the Dehydro-Testosterone in their new locations and continue to function regularly covering fully the formerly bald areas on the head.

In one of newest hair transplant techniques called FUE - Follicular Unit Extraction - hair follicles are removed directly from the donor area, without having to remove the small strip of skin as done in all other procedures.
